Winchester Cancer Research Trust
The WCRT was established in the Winchester area in 1989 with three key aims
- to improve the standards of diagnosis and treatment of women with breast cancer;
- to fund additional equipment and facilities to improve the investigation and care of all patients
- to support education, training and research into breast cancer, so that patients can enjoy the very latest advances in breast cancer management.
In short, it supports the excellent work done by the Winchester and Andover Breast Unit at the Royal Hampshire County Hospital. They are presently hoping to acquire a sophisticated surgical instrument to benefit patients.
Dick Rainsbury, Director of the Unit and Chief Trustee of the WCRT said
‘We’ve enjoyed the generosity and support of countless members of the public over the years. As a direct result, we’ve been able to introduce a wide range of new initiatives which the NHS can’t afford.
Charitable donations have improved the lives of the many thousands of breast cancer patients treated on our Unit over more than 20 years. New surgical procedures, new dietary treatments and new equipment are just some examples of developments funded by the Trust, which have helped to keep us at the forefront of breast cancer care in the UK.
We are now one of only five Units in the country providing ‘one stop’ surgery and radiotherapy, and with the Mayor’s support, we hope to purchase new ‘state of the art’ surgical equipment which will hasten the recovery of our patients further still’.
